Overseas Filipino Worker Jophel Botero Ybiosa won the Asian Geographic Magazine (AsianGeo) Images of Asia (IOA) Monthly Competition 2020 for Wildlife Photography.
The cruise ship photographer was declared the May 2020 winner of the AsianGeo contest.
Ybiosa shared with Good News Pilipinas that his winning photograph of a long-tail macaque monkey known to be native to Southeast Asia was filmed during the Sapphire Princess crew’s shore excursion in the Batu Caves of Malaysia.
The monthly win makes Ybiosa a nominee for Wildlife Photographer of the Year of Asian Geographic, along with the annual Images of Asia competition.
Ybiosa found out about his winning photograph on Sunday, May 3rd, while under quarantine on the port of Manila after arriving from Singapore. He and his crew tested negative for COVID-19 but are still awaiting another confirmatory test before being allowed to disembark on May 11.
The multi-awarded Polytechnic University of the Philippines alumnus is the first Filipino to win 1st prize in the Chromatic Awards and was recently awarded for his “Mud People” photograph of the Nueva Ecija festival.
