Netflix has just revealed the first look of the heroine of Philippine-made anime, Trese, that is scheduled to be released soon.
The popular video streaming site shared on October 27, 2020, images of Alexandra Trese, the lead character of the Philippine-made anime series based on the Filipino graphic novel of the same title.
“Aswangs of Manila, beware: Alexandra Trese is coming for you. Enjoy this very first look at TRESE, coming soon on Netflix,” announced Netflix.
First published in 2005, written by Budjette Tan and illustrated by Kajo Baldisimo, the black and white graphic novel revolves around Alexandra Trese, a supernatural crime investigator that solves cases that deal with supernatural origins and unravels the mysteries hiding within the streets of Metro Manila.
The Trese franchise has won two awards from the National Book Development Board and the Manila Critics Circle in National Books Awards in the category of Best Graphic Literature for for Trese: Mass Murders in 2010 and Trese: Last Seen After Midnight in 2011.
Trese was first announced in 2019 to be included in the Netflix programming as one of the five new animated series originally scheduled for release in 2020.
The new release schedule for 2021 was announced during the Netflix Anime Festival 2020.
The first-ever Filipino anime series ‘Barangay 143’ started streaming on Netflix this October.
