The Philippines’ Michael Francis “Miko” Eala started strong in his return to the tennis season with a Doubles Title at the Lousada Junior Cup II in Portugal.
The 17-year-old Eala and partner Daniel Rincon of Spain first bested Portugal’s Jaime Faria and Tiago Pereira in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 7-5, and afterward defeated Jesse De Jager (Netherlands) and Alexandr Kalinin (Belarus) in the semifinals, 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-2).
The Filipino and Spanish pair dominated their Portuguese finals competitors, Miguel Gomes and Henrique Rocha, scoring 6-1, 6-3, in the tournament that ended October 12, 2020 (Philippine Time).
Eala went on social media announcing his first tournament since the lockdown was enforced after his stint at the Australian Open Juniors.
“Good tune-up tournament before playing some $15Ks in Greece. Thanks partner Dani!”
Miko Eala had just graduated from the Rafa Nadal Academy and is expected to see action at Penn State University in 2021.
The Filipino tennis champion captured the Hellenic Bank Masters Tennis Title in Cyprus in 2019.
Miko, together with sister Alex, won the International Tennis Singles Titles in Manila and the Netherlands in 2018.
Alex Eala has just come off a historic campaign at the 2020 French Open, reaching the semifinals of the Girls’ Tourney, a first for a Filipina.
