It’s official. Kai Sotto is finally suiting up for the Gilas Pilipinas Men’s National Basketball Team for the third and final window of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
The 7-foot-3 former Ateneo High School MVP who has been training in the United States, first with The Skills Factory where he won an MVP award and then the National Basketball Association (NBA) G-League, is back in the Philippines to fulfill his pledge to help with the nation’s campaign at the Asia Cup.
The 19-year-old Sotto completed the mandatory quarantine after he arrived in the country on May 31 and has already joined the Gilas Pilipinas team Clark training bubble.
Sotto shared in a Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) video on June 14 that he is at home with the men’s basketball team as he had previously played with some of the players.
“I’ve played with most of them before. To see everybody, that we will play for the national team, is a really good feeling for me,” Sotto said.
The star player also shared that he adjusted well to the Gilas system.
“For me, I don’t really find anything hard to learn. I think that’s one of my strengths, I’m a fast learner and I’m very fast to adjust,” Sotto added.
SBP announced today that Kai Sotto is all set to play as one of the first 12 in the Philippines’ first game against South Korea on June 16 at the AUF Sports & Cultural Center in Angeles, Pampanga.
Sotto will play for the Adelaide 36ers of the Australian National Basketball League for the 2021/22 season.
