This just in: American Idol judges predicted that Filipino-Canadian Tyson Venegas is on his way to the Top 10 of the popular singing reality show after his Showstopper performance on Sunday evening, April 9, 2023 (Monday morning, April 10, Philippine Standard Time).
Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie at first expressed their disappointment at Venegas’ cover performance of Lizzo which they said did not show the singer’s full potential, leading to Perry speaking on behalf of the panel that they did not think the 17-year-old belongs to the Top 24 of the competition.
It seemed that Venegas was on his way out of the show until Perry announced their decision. “We don’t think you are destined for the Top 24. We actually think it was more like Top 10, but you’re still gonna go to the Top 24 first,” Perry teasingly said as the other two judges chuckled at Venegas, who was at first confused before realizing that he made it through to the next round.
Tyson Venegas first impressed the judges during his audition in Las Vegas with his rendition of Billy Joel’s “New York State Of Mind” which earned him the first platinum ticket of the talent show’s current season, allowing the young singer to skip the first round of solo performances on Holywood Week.
His Hollywood round duet of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” with fellow Platinum ticket holder Kaylin Hedges also earned praises from the judges. and goosebumps from judge Katy Perry who even posted photos on social media.
Tyson Venegas expressed his excitement on Twitter: “SO HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE I MADE IT TO THE TOP 24! I have met so many amazing friends and artists on this journey and I can’t believe it’s not over yet!”

Tyson Venegas previously participated in “The Voice Teens Philippines” season 2 under Team apl.de.ap but did not finish the competition.
