Spotify has partnered with Jose Mari Chan and some of the top trending Original Pinoy Music (OPM) artists today to release a first Asia-made holiday single on the popular mobile streaming service.
Jose Mari Chan, whose Christmas songs have ushered the onset of the season in the Philippines, has collaborated with Ben&Ben, Julie Ann San Jose, Moira Dela Torre, December Avenue, and I Belong to the Zoo for a new rendition of Chan’s 1990 classic, “A Perfect Christmas”.
Spotify’s first Philippine-made track brings each artist’s own unique version to the beloved song that has brought joy across generations. “A Perfect Christmas” is part of Spotify’s relaunched “Tatak Pinoy All-Stars” original content and is presented on its “Paskong Pinoy” playlist. The revival is produced by Ito Rapadas and Marvin Querido of the 80s pop band, Neocolours.
“A Perfect Christmas” was first released as a single from Chan’s “Christmas in Our Hearts” album.
Jose Mari Chan talked about his Christmas classic and its message, saying, “When I recorded the track back in the ’90s, I never dreamed that it would become the quintessential Christmas song it is today, that it would be listened to year after year and loved by generations. To me, the spirit of Christmas is being able to give and share your love, and Christmas isn’t ‘perfect’ without someone special, someone you love.”
Spotify’s Artist and Label Marketing Lead in Southeast Asia, Kassy Ng, enthused that aside from the relaunching of the flagship of OPM playlist Tatak Pinoy, they decided to end this year with an OPM holiday classic as a testimony of their continued support to the thriving local music scene.
Meanwhile, Kathleen Dy Go, the Managing Director of Universal Records in the Philippines expressed that “We are delighted to work together with Spotify, Jose Mari Chan, and the all-star line up to bring this reimagined version of ‘A Perfect Christmas’ for the Christmas season. This collaboration has presented itself as the perfect opportunity to celebrate what makes it a well-beloved track, the amazing talent we have in the country, and the true reason behind the season’’.
Jose Mari Chan and the other OPM artists have expressed their excitement in this collaboration and have offered the song as their early Christmas gift to fans.
