Monique Lhuillier’s gowns are once again getting the world’s attention – this time on the “Fifty Shades Darker” movie hit sequel.
The Filipino designer’s custom gown and capelet is worn by the character of Anastasia Steele portrayed by Dakota Johnson in the masquerade scene at the house of Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan).
Lhuillier designed Ana’s cowl-neck silver satin sheath gown with draped neckline in the prominent scene which had one of the characters complimenting Ana for her choice of clothes and even namedrops the designer, reported Cosmo.
“Fifty Shades Darker” costume designer Shay Cunliffe talked about how the gown was crafted by Lhuillier to evoke old Hollywood saying, “…she and her team took the inspiration from there—crafting this stunning confection… Monique also beautifully resolved our need to create a gown which can effortlessly slip to the ground… another feat of engineering."
Lhuillier paired the gown with an ostrich feather capelet which Shay says was a challenge since each feather was sewn by hand for “Ana’s show-stopping entrance at the ball, hearkening back to the 1930s screen sirens."
The popular designer ‘s press statement described the creation as "Ana radiates confidence and femininity, and so the gown I imagined for this iconic scene encapsulates that modern sophistication.”
Another Lhuillier gown was recently spotlighted on Drew Barrymore at the Golden Globes red carpet.
