Jimmy Alapag has joined the Sacramento Kings coaching staff in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Summer League in the United States – the first Filipino to hold the position.
The former Gilas Pilipinas captain and head coach of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) San Miguel Alab confirmed he started his first day on the team on June 26. Alapag posted on social media the pictures of his Sacramento Kings gear.
Jimmy Alapag’s NBA coaching stint comes by way of being a FIBA Commission member. The PBA Most Valuable Player met and stayed in touch with Vlade Divac, the Chairman of the FIBA Players’ Commission.

The Filipino coach was invited to join the training staff in the United States by Divac who was also the Kings’ General Manager.
Alapag will serve as assistant coach of the Sacramento Kings at the Summer League in Las Vegas from July 5-15.
