National athlete James De Los Santos once again brought pride to the Philippines after winning gold at the recently concluded E-Tournament Korokotta Cup 2020.
With his new win, De Los Santos has climbed to the Top 4 spot on the World Virtual Kata Rankings, moving up two notches from Top 6 last month after he bagged silver in the e-Kata individual male seniors division.
The Filipino karate athlete shared the good news on his social media on June 29 after he bested his competitors from different countries under the E-Kata Individual Male Senior category.
“Just finished competing in the E-Tournament Korokotta Cup 2020!” the 2017 SEA Games bronze medalist said. “In my category, Male Senior Individual Kata, there were 18 competitors from 11 nations.”
The Philippine representative first defeated competitors from Brazil during Round 16 with a score of 4-1, and South Africa during the quarterfinals also at 4-1.
De Los Santos, during the semifinals, outperformed his opponent from Bolivia with the score of 4-1, and then outmatched South African athlete at the finals with 5-0 to secure the gold for the Philippines.
“Thank you God for this opportunity and keeping me in good health,” the 30-year-old Pinoy athlete shared on his post. “Thank you family and friends for your support. Keeping the fire burning.”
In May, Team Philippines won 3 golds in the first Online Daedo Open European Poomsae Championships.
