ITF Women’s Singles champion Alexandra “Alex” Eala has just nailed her 3rd straight quarterfinals appearance at the 3rd leg of the W15 Manacor tennis tournament in Spain.
The W15 Manacor 1st leg champion from the Philippines is on track in her bid for a new pro title as Eala won against Silvia Ambrosio of Germany in their Round 2 match held February 4, 2021 (early morning February 5 Philippine Time), at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar hardcourt.
Alex Eala pulled off a victory in three sets in over 3 hours of play, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3, to advance to the quarterfinals, her third straight spot following her championship run and 2nd leg appearance in the pro tourney.
The Filipino teen tennis sensation met Ambrosio in Round 2 after her domination of Spain’s bet Ana Lantigua de la Nuez in her Round 1 opener on February 3.
The 15-year old Filipino champion will now advance to the quarterfinals against Oksana Selekhmeteva of Russia, an 18-year-old left-hander like Eala.
Alex Eala broke into the top 1000 of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Rankings after winning her ITF Women’s Singles Championship title in January. Eala ranks 942nd on WTA while her Russian competition ranks 611th.
The ITF World Juniors No. 3 ranked player entered the W15 Manacor tournament as the Main Draw Junior Reserved player by virtue of her top rank in the juniors. The W15 Manacor championship is her first professional tennis title after she turned pro in 2020. Alex Eala is the reigning Australian Open Doubles Champion.
