The Island of Dreams’ director Erik Matti and actress Angeli Bayani have both received nominations from the Content Asia Awards.

Erik Matti was nominated for Best Director while Angeli Bayani received a nomination for Best Actress for their “Island of Dreams” pilot episode on the eight-part drama anthology of HBO Asia Originals series, “Food Lore.”

Matti, the well-known director of Anne Curtis’ BuyBust and Joel Torre’s On the Job, shared his happiness on Instagram on August 20, 2020, saying:

“Yeeeeyyy!!! Congratulations @angelibayani for the nomination. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch the #FoodLore series. Catch #IslandofDreams at HBO Go.”

Matti vies for the coveted title of Best Director of a Scripted TV programme and will be up against four other nominees: Emil Heradi (Pretty Little Liars), Imri Nasution (Kopitiam: Double Shot), Ler Jiyuan (Invisible Stories), and TJ Lee (The Bridge).

Bayani will compete for the Best Female Lead in a TV Programme with Thailand’s Nittha Jirayungyurn in “My Husband in Law”, India’s Rasika Dugal in “Out of Love Season 1”, Siti Saleha in “Black”, and Yeo Yann Yann in “Invisible Stories”.

The Philippine episode of “Island of Dreams” revolved around food and the story behind a poor family which gives inspiration to the character of Bayani as Nieves – ambitious and hardworking househelp who was taught how to cook by her rich employer played by Joey Marquez.

“Island of Dreams is all about change, all about probably thinking beyond what you’re used to doing, deciding whether to stay stagnant or to move forward,” the film director said.

You can watch the Food Lore series on HBO GO.

The live-streamed awarding ceremony will be held on August 28, 2020, at 6:30 pm courtesy of Content Asia Awards.
