This year’s first international gold win for Bomba Pilipinas Dragonboat Team has been secured at the 7th Federation of Chinese Association Sabah (FCAS) International Dragon Boat Race in Malaysia.
Bomba Pilipinas Dragonboat Team won both a gold and a silver in the finals of the FCAS dragon boat races held in Likas Bay from July 1-3, 2022.
The Filipino champion team aggressively rowed through 59.80 seconds in the finals of the 200-meter Mixed Team Open Category to decisively win the gold and the Kinabalu Dragon Trophy.
Bomba Pilipinas Dragonboat Team D in Lane 5 eclipsed the Royal Malaysian Police Paddlers C (1:00.65s, 2nd place) and Penang Chinese Town Hall DBT E (1:00.89s, 3rd place) in the finals event held on Sunday, July 3.
Team Philippines also secured the silver and the Sabah FCAS Dragon Trophy in the Mixed Standard Boat Category after rowing 800 meters with a time of 3:48.86, just .07 seconds short of the winner, Royal Malaysian Police Paddlers B who clocked in at 3:48.79, and nearly 2 seconds ahead of Penang Chinese Town Hall DBT B 3:50.27s.
The Bomba Pilipinas Dragonboat Team of veteran paddlers and newbies shone among 140 teams who registered for the FCAS dragon boat race which was held for the first time in two years since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world.
Prior to the pandemic, Team Philippines were hailed champions of the Beijing International Dragon Boat Tournament, Manila Dragon Boat Team won 2 overall titles and 6 golds at the Guam Festival, and women rowers struck gold at the Asian Rowing Coastal Championships in Thailand.
