Google is connecting more Filipinos to credible vaccine-related information they can trust through Search and YouTube as part of its ongoing role to help the country in the fight against COVID-19.
Dedicated Search results page on vaccines
Similar to how Google has been surfacing authoritative COVID-19 information on Search, Google launched a dedicated Search results page to give Filipinos quick and easy access to credible and timely information on vaccines from trusted news sources and health authorities. When people type in related keywords on Search such as “COVID-19 vaccines”, they will instantly find reliable information on vaccination updates, news, links to global and local health authorities, and health information among others.
YouTube Information Panels
YouTube has been investing heavily to raise authoritative content on the platform. Through information panels, people are linked to more trusted global and local health sources that appear on videos and searches about COVID-19 and vaccines. These are also displayed on the platform’s homepage.
“Google is committed to protecting our platforms from misinformation—and connecting more people to the information they can trust. That includes taking down harmful and misleading content across our products, raising authoritative information on Search and YouTube, providing ad grants, and supporting quality news reporting on vaccines.
Globally, more than 700,000 videos related to dangerous or false COVID-19 information have been removed and our information panels on YouTube have been viewed 400 billion times, making them a valuable source of credible information,” said Bernadette Nacario, Country Director of Google Philippines. “We will continue to connect more Filipinos to trusted information on our platforms as quick and easy access to credible and timely information is key to help fight misinformation, keep people safe, and build public confidence in vaccines.”
Google and several tech companies partnered with the Department of Health in launching the #ChecktheFAQs campaign to emphasize the importance of accurate information in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and encourage the public to fact-check information that they come across.
Google Search instantly directs people to suicide prevention hotlines.
Google also held a digital safety tips webinar to help Filipinos stay safer online.
