Google is taking major strides to accelerate the growth of a Digital Philippines, offering a variety of free resources including generative AI training, startup support, and new career development programs.
The popular internet browser launched in September 2023, its various programs to help Filipinos successfully ride the digital wave.
Free AI Training and Support for Startups
Google Cloud introduced free courses in generative AI under its Cloud Skills Boost Program. These courses are designed to help Filipinos gain valuable skills, from an introduction to generative AI to responsible AI practices. “Through our technology, skilling programs, and partnerships, we will continue to help unleash the potential of the digital economy and empower the workforce of the future,” said Bernadette Nacario, Country Director of Google Philippines.
In addition to training, Google Cloud is extending a helping hand to Series A startups in the Philippines that focus on AI. The Google for AI Startups Cloud Program provides up to US$350,000 in cloud credits over two years and opens doors to valuable training and networking opportunities.

Expanding Opportunities with New Google Career Certificates
Google is also adding three more courses—Business Intelligence, Advanced Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity—to its Career Certificates program. Last year, Google committed to offering 39,000 Career Certificate scholarships to Filipinos from underserved communities. Building on this commitment, Google has allocated 1,000 more scholarships for this year, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology and partner NGOs.

Positive Career Outcomes
The impact of Google’s Career Certificates program in the Philippines is already significant, boasting over 6,000 graduates and an 80% success rate in career advancements like job placements and promotions within just six months of certificate completion.
The Growing Importance of Digital Skills
A new study backed by Google and conducted by The Economist Impact underscores the growing importance of digital skills among Filipino employees. Jeffrey Ian Dy, Undersecretary for Connectivity, Cybersecurity, and Upskilling at the Department of Information and Communications Technology, emphasized, “Upskilling is so important for realizing career aspirations and improving lives. Programs like the Google Career Certificates and Google’s no-cost AI skilling courses will empower the country’s workforce to thrive in the digital economy.”
Projections for the Philippine Digital Economy
The Philippines is on track for substantial digital growth, with estimates suggesting that the digital economy could be worth as much as US$150 billion in the next decade. The tech sector alone is expected to create 1.1 million new jobs by 2028, including 150,000 developer roles.
