GoodNewsPilipinas.com Lasallian Scholarum Awards
Good News Pilipinas writer Margo Quadra’s feature on Filipino students was selected to compete in the Lasallian Scholarum Awards finals.

GoodNewsPilipinas.com scored back-to-back finalist spots in the Lasallian Scholarum Awards with the inclusion of its feature article on Filipino students graduating from the world’s top universities in the 18th edition of the annual media recognition given by De La Salle University.

“These 4 Filipino Students Overcame Odds to Graduate from Top Universities” written by Margo Hannah De Guzman Quadra in 2022 is one of the 10 finalists for Outstanding Online Feature Article on Youth and Education in the 2023 Lasallian Scholarum Awards for outstanding coverage of youth and education stories.

Quadra wrote about four inspiring Filipino graduates from prestigious international universities who “braved many obstacles – overcoming financial difficulties, disabilities, challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic that disrupted education systems around the world, and more – to achieve academic success and inspire the nation with their stories.”

The Good News Pilipinas article tells the stories of how hard-working Filipino scholars, including a former domestic worker-turned award-winning photographer and now a master’s degree holder, a deaf Filipino doctorate degree holder, a Pinay nanny’s daughter who graduated from Harvard University, and a Pinoy who overcame poverty, have uplifted fellow Filipinos and inspired them to work hard and follow their dreams.

Quadra’s article gives Good News Pilipinas its second and back-to-back finalist berth in the Lasallian Scholarum Awards, after the website and this author made the final cut and eventually secured a win in the 2022 edition of the LSA for Outstanding Feature Story on De La Salle University with the story “Lasallian heroes against Martial Law honored on International Day of Peace” Jose “Ka Pepe” Diokno, Lorenzo “Ka Tanny” Tañada, and Bishop Felix Paz Perez.

Margo Quadra has been writing for Good News Pilipinas since 2020. She says being named an LSA finalist is an unexpected honor and inspires her to find more good stories about Filipinos.

“It’s a huge honor to be nominated for the Lasallian Scholarum Awards! I’m so happy to get into the finals and have our stories of inspiring Filipinos heard by more people,” the San Sebastian College – Recoletos de Cavite graduate of BS in Psychology shared.

She especially values the topic of her LSA finalist article.

“I wanted to share some of the challenges many Filipinos face to finish college. I hope that by doing so, more people will see the strength and determination of young people who work hard to achieve their dreams in the face of adversity,” she added.

The Lasallian Scholarum Awards will be held on March 22 at the De La Salle University in Manila.
