Philippine television’s GMA Network and TV 5’s digital campaigns won medals at the 2019 Asian Digital Media Awards held Wednesday in Hong Kong.
GMA News and Public Affairs’ election campaign “Pusuan Ang Totoo” won silver and TV 5’s ” ‘Tol Wag Troll, Respeto Lang” won bronze in the Best Marketing Campaign for News Brand Award during ceremonies held on October 30.
Both stations’ campaigns were recognized for their “clear messaging, an effective social strategy, strong brand voice and efficient targeting” in the
Asian Digital Media Awards, presented by WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers, that recognise Asian publishers who have “delivered unique and original digital media projects in the last 12 months. From new approaches to digital subscriptions, to impactful native advertising campaigns – projects that inspire us all.”
GMA Kapuso station took home the silver for its Eleksyon 2019 advocacy titled
“Pusuan Ang Totoo”. The election campaign encouraged the voters to be more discerning in their choices, their source of information, and their choice of candidates as it will make a huge effect on the future of the entire Filipino nation. It urged netizens to always choose what is true, most especially in news, to help them make sound decisions during the elections.
The term “Pusuan” (to heart) refers to the behavior of social media users who put a heart on posts of their choice, and GMA News and Public Affairs used it to encourage views to “heart’ the truth. The TV network’s News and Public Affairs Digital Media developed online tools and content for Pinoy voters such as Youscoop asks, Danteleksyon, Mykodigo and Stand on Issues, heat maps, and election results.
GMA News and YouScoop social media manager Justin Joyas received the silver award in behalf of the TV network’s News and Public Affairs department.
TV 5’s bronze-awarded ‘Tol Wag Troll, Respeto Lang’ social media campaign addresses online trolling behavior and was anchored on a theme that serves as a reminder to be mindful of one’s behavior, whether online or offline.
TV 5’s “#TolWagTroll, Respeto Lang” campaign had as one of its features the station’s news and public affairs personalities going on video to read troll messages sent to them and responding to each with a reminder to stop the negative behavior.
Philippine television networks have been reaping awards and recognition from different film and TV festivals in different parts of the world, among them, GMA Network’s first Gold Dolphin at the 2019 Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards for the Reel Time episode titled “Batang Maestro” (Little Teacher) and multiple awards at the 2019 Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA) of the Singapore Media Festival.
