Beauty pageant icon and seasoned actress Gloria Diaz is celebrating the 50th
anniversary of her winning the first Miss Universe crown for the Philippines which she won in 1969 in Miami Beach, Florida, and she fittingly marks the milestone as a beauty queen legend on the hit Netflix series, Insatiable.
Gloria Diaz plays the Philippines’ legendary beauty queen Gloria Reyes in the second season of Insatiable. The Insatiable series tells the story of a bullied teenager who resorted to beauty pageants and reinvented herself as a beauty queen for revenge.
Gloria Diaz was presented as a guest actor on Insatiable when its stars Debby Ryan and Dallas Roberts visited the Philippines on October 8. In their reunion, Gloria Diaz proudly wore a Don Ramon Esteban outfit as Debby Ryan wore a Filipiniana dress designed by Patty Ang, and Dallas Roberts wore Barong created by Randy Ortiz.
A Netflix teaser of the three even had them doing the lava walk, in reference to the iconic walk of reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray.
Prior to the promotional visit, Netflix teased about Gloria Diaz’s joining the set of Insatiable in a video clip that showed the Filipina beauty making a queenly entrance in a hotel.
The inspirational Filipina celebrity mother was also featured in a behind-the-scenes video released by Netflix on October 4 where Gloria was introduced as the former Miss Philippines titleholder.
In the video, Gloria Diaz brought the viewers on the set of Insatible and narrated some of her experiences.
“I was very, very tense but my director was so good. He told me, ‘Relax, Act like a diva’, and I said, ‘That sounds like me,'” recalled the Pinay beauty queen.
The seasoned actress also showed the stars of Insatiable including Filipino actor Vincent Rodriguez III who plays the character of Detective Rudy Cruz, and introduced him as Filipino, to which Rodriguez quickly said, “Opo (Yes).”
The Filipina icon glamorously gave a glimpse of her trailer truck full of costumes, the sumptuous food for lunch, and of meeting the Insatiable lead star Debby Ryan who plays the role of Patty Bladell.
Gloria Diaz continues to be active in the local entertainment industry and can be seen with fellow Filipina Miss Universe winners Margie Moran, Pia Wurtzbach, and Catriona Gray in a mural painting at a mall in Quezon City.
