Pinoy comics superheroine Darna will soon be released in a Funko Pop, the first local superhero to have its own Funko collectible toy.
The big reveal of the Darna toy by the well-known global toy brand took place over the weekend at the famous Comic-Con International in San Diego, U.S.
The photo release shows Funko replicating the trademark look of the Pinay superhero, complete with a winged headpiece to match her red and gold costume.
Darna will be the second character from the Philippines to have its own Funko Pop collectible. Last year, Funko partnered with Jollibee to release a collectible version of the fast-food chain’s mascot.
The creation of Mars Ravelo, Darna officially made her first comic book appearance in 1950 and is celebrating her 70th anniversary in 2020. The most iconic Pinay superhero is a member of the Ravelo Komiks Universe which also features the well-loved Captain Barbell and Lastikman characters.
ABS-CBN collaborated with Funko for the creation of the limited edition Darna Funko Pop and comes just days after actress Jane De Leon was revealed to portray Darna for the Star Cinema movie, to be directed by Jerrold Tarog of “Heneral Luna” fame.
Funko is a novelty toy manufacturer based in the US. Its popular Pop! the line has over 6,000 designs featuring characters from various pop culture properties from TV, films, comics such as Marvel Comics, DC, Disney, and many more. Funko’s works were first previewed at the New York Comic Con 2010 and have, since then, been making waves worldwide.
Funko Pop Darna is expected to reach Philippine stores in August 2019.
