Passengers using transport hubs in the Philippines will soon have access to enhanced Wi-Fi services with the signing of an agreement between Smart Communications and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Twenty-one airports, sea ports, train stations, bus terminals, among other transport hubs will be serviced within the next 100 days, according to Transportation secretary Arthur Tugade. These include:
- NAIA terminals 1, 2, 3 ,4
- Airports in Clark, Laoag, Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Kalibo, Aklan, Davao, Laguindingan, Gen. Santos, Zamboanga
- LRT1, LRT2, and MRT3,
- Ports of Batangas, Mindoro
The WiFi speed will be 10 times faster than current speeds to meet international standards, Smart said.
DOTr’s Tugade added, “We thank our partner, Smart, for supporting the government’s thrust to make passengers’ travel experience more comfortable, convenient and connected.”
Under the agreement, the telecoms company will operate and maintain the Wi-Fi facilities at no cost to the government.
