Filipino students can now avail the free summer camp for English and Math studies offered online.
The Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) now offers the English and Math free remediation programs in its free virtual summer camp where Filipino students can also learn about arts and crafts, music, theater, and many more.
To prepare learners and parents for the upcoming school year, DepEd has begun streaming the episodes of the “ETULay Summer Camp,” a free online tutorial platform for students navigating distance learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
ETULay is currently offering English and Math remediation programs, as well as classes in Scouting, Arts and Crafts, Music lessons, and Theater Play-acting workshops, among others, from July 19 until August 28, 2021.
“Even on summer breaks, we are encouraging our learners to engage in these kinds of activities for them to expand their knowledge and prior skills attained throughout the past school year,” Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said in a statement on Monday, August 2.
“We want to make sure that our learners are ready and prepared to take their future subjects in their next year level, especially that we are currently implementing the distance learning modality,” Secretary Briones adds.
The ETULay sessions are aired from 9 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Mondays through Fridays on DepEd’s official social media pages, DepEd Tayo Regional Facebook accounts, and the DepEd Philippines YouTube channel.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Department’s Information and Communications Technology Service – Educational Technology Unit (ICTS-ETU) and derived from the wordplay of ETU, and itulay (Filipino for to bridge). It was designed to bridge gaps and improve the quality of education in the remote learning setup amid the new normal of education.
Aside from the online summer camp, the DepEd program also includes sessions on Storytelling, Wellness, Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE), English, Filipino, Mathematics, Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP), and Health for a comprehensive learning experience for all Filipinos.
DepEd is airing educational episodes translated into various major Filipino languages as part of its televised distance learning program for students all over the country.
