Good news to basketball-loving Filipino anime fans! The first Philippine-made anime series, Barangay 143. is now set to premiere on national television this October.
Barangay 143 social media announced the scheduled airing of the basketball anime on GMA network television this coming October 13.
The show is jointly produced by Japanese television network TV Asahi, August Media Holdings from Singapore and Synergy88, a Philippine-based studio for animations and game development, together with the contributions from its staff members in Malaysia, Korea and United States.
Barangay 143 is described as a feel-good coming of age story of a young Korean boy named Bren Park whose search for his father brings him to the Philippines.
“Lost and desperate for answers, he finds an unlikely family in a team of misfits whose only ambition is to bring glory to their hometown. It’s a story about love and family set against the action-packed world of street basketball, where the stakes are always high and life is the biggest game you can win.”
The locally-produced Pinoy anime has an all-star Filipino cast of voices led by Cherie Gil, John Arcilla, Edu Manzano, Julie Ann San Jose, Kelley Day, Ruru Madrid, and Migo Adecer as Bren.
Since its announced creation a mobile game named Barangay 143: Street League has been released for android and iOS users.
The game has an ongoing promo titled “GM Challenge” where gamers compete with a game master for a chance to win exciting prizes such as basketball game tickets.
