Financial publications FinanceAsia and The Asset recently acknowledged Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) for excellence in sustainability as well as trade finance, supply chain, and risk management as the Bank continues to innovate financial services for its clients while keeping an eye on its impact to society.
BPI was awarded “Best Sustainable Bank in the Philippines” for its efforts in Sustainable Energy Finance (SEF) in the FinanceAsia Country Awards 2020, while it was distinguished as “Best Service Provider in Trade Finance”, “Best Service Provider in Supply Chain”, and “Best Service Provider in Risk Management” by the Asset Triple A Awards.
FinanceAsia Award
FinanceAsia noted the BPI SEF Program for its dedicated team of sustainability officers and staff, free technical consultations, loan evaluation process, broad access to local and international expertise and networks, educational campaigns, and Green Finance Framework.
“Our SEF Program’s business model is inspired by its mission to ensure that projects are not only meeting global standards for being green and sustainable, but are also achieving its goal of higher business productivity, efficiency, and profitability. It’s not enough that the project is green. It needs to be successful and profitable to be sustainable,” said John-C Syquia, BPI Head of Corporate Banking.
“The award on sustainability is especially meaningful to us. With the recent expansion of our Sustainability Funding Framework, we look forward to further strengthening our commitment to sustainability as we balance our growth aspirations with environmental and social responsibility,” Mr. Syquia added.
This was the first year that FinanceAsia has given an award for sustainable banking. FinanceAsia is a prestigious corporate finance publication that has been covering capital markets transactions across the Asia Pacific region since 1996.
The Asset Triple A Awards
The Asset Triple A Awards noted the bank’s strong performance and sound strategies in both Trade Finance and Supply Chain. For the period reviewed by the Asset Triple A Awards committee, they noted BPI’s dominance in the trade services industry and high rate of revenue growth for these businesses.
“Our Asset Triple A Awards for Trade Finance and Supply Chain validate our key strategies wherein we focused on anticipating economic trends and seizing opportunities for our clients. We continue to develop our agility and flexibility in responding to the unique business requirements our clients may have,” said Syquia.
BPI received its third Asset Triple A Award for 2020 for the Risk Management initiatives of its Global Markets Group which helped it overcome a highly competitive banking environment, stringent regulations, and tight timelines.
“Our goal is to help clients with risk management, providing hedging solutions for foreign exchange and interest rate risks. We tirelessly strive to provide not just competitively-priced financial products and services but also customized and innovative solutions to help our clients manage risks and optimize returns,” said Dino Gasmen, BPI Head for Global Markets.
