Filipino triathletes Katrina Salazar, Moira Erediano, and Francisco Baniqued conquered the land and sea with their gold and silver podium finishes at the Southeast Asian Triathlon Association (SEATA) Race held in Desaru, Malaysia.
The three Philippine representatives all gained podium spots in their respective categories in the SEATA Race held Sunday, September 18, 2022.
The race had the triathletes go through a track 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer cycling, and 5-kilometer run.
Katrina Salazar, Gold
18-year-old Katrina Salazar was declared 1st placer of the SEATA Elite Junior Category where only 16 to 19-year-olds competed.
She finished her International Triathlon Race debut at the SEATA Race in only one hour, 13 minutes, and 34 seconds.
Salazar is a newly-recruited track and field athlete at the University of the East.
Moira Erediano, Silver
Cebu-based Moira Erediano took 2nd place in the same event, clocking in at 1:14:1.
The 17-year-old Cebuana Grade 12 student was behind Salazar by only 30 seconds.

Francisco Baniqued, Silver
Francisco Baniqued from Laguna bagged the 2nd place award in the Elite Junior Under 23 (U23) Category.
He was the only male Filipino in the Race which he finished in only one hour, two minutes, and 55 seconds.
Baniqued was only behind champion Xian Hao Chong by a minute.

Salazar, Erediano, and Baniqued join a roster of Filipino triathletes who brought pride to our country by excelling in various tracks may it be on the sea, on land, or by foot. Missionary triathlete Romeo Puncia raises mission funds with his triathlon events, SEA Games Gold Medalist John Chicano, Asian Elite Champion August Benedicto, and Roland Espina Jr. who won Ireland’s Ironman Games in 2015.
