Filipino tennis champions Treat Huey, Ruben Gonzales, and Francis Alcantara recently won doubles titles in their respective international tournaments in the United States and Egypt, showing them in top form for the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Vietnam this May 12-23, 2022.
Filipino pair Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales defeated their Chinese opponents and conquered the ATP Savannah Challenger in the United States, while Francis Alcantara of the Philippines teamed up with Colin Sinclair of Northern Mariana Islands to defeat the Russian competition at the M25 Cairo tournament in Egypt.

Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales secured the doubles title by defeating Tung-Lin Wu of Chinese Taipei and Zhizhen Zhang of China, 7-6(3), 6-4, in the championship match held at The Landings Club in Savannah, Georgia on April 30 (May 1, Manila time).
Prior to the final, the Filipino tennis duo ousted Americans Alex Lawson and Reese Stalder (6-1, 6-3) and American James Cerretani and South African Ruan Roelofse in the quarterfinals (6-2, 7-5).
In the semifinals, Huey and Gonzales won against Americans Jackson Withrow and Robert Galloway, 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-7.
With the win, Gonzales and Huey bagged $3,100 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
Francis Alcantara
Francis Alcantara of the Philippines paired up with Colin Sinclair of the Northern Mariana Islands to capture the doubles crown at the M25 Cairo tournament in Egypt.
Alcantara and Sinclair won the final match, 6-3, 6-3, over Denis Klok and Ilya Rudiukov of Russia at the Al-Solaimaneyah Tennis Center on April 30.
Filipino tennis stalwarts Treat Huey, Ruben Gonzales, and Francis Alcantara are all expected to see action as the Philippines defends its overall champion crown in the upcoming SEA Games to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam this May 2022, where pole vaulter EJ Obiena will lead the nation’s delegation as the flagbearer.
Huey and Gonzales were silver medalists while Alcantara delivered the gold medal for the Philippines in tennis in the 2019 SEA Games.
The Philippines’ SEA Games track & field champions led the country’s 10 gold, 13 silver, and 6 bronze medal haul in the 82nd Singapore Open Track & Field Championships recently held at the Home of Athletics, Kallang Sports Center, Singapore.
