Filipino-Salvadoran mixed martial artist Ricky “Hadouken” Turcios has become the bantamweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter season 29 (TUF 29) following his split decision victory over Brady Hiestand in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A.
Turcios fought Hiestand over three hard rounds of back-and-forth action while carrying the flags of El Salvador and the Philippines in The Ultimate Fighter bantamweight finale live from the UFC Apex on August 28, 2021 (August 29, Manila time).
Turcios took the TUF 29 bantamweight crown with a close split decision win over Hiestand (29-28, 29-28, 28-29). With the win, Turcios claims the title of TUF champion and was awarded a UFC contract.
“It’s a dream come true. I wanna say salamat sa Diyos, thank God,” Turcios said, speaking in both Filipino and English after being declared the TUF 29 bantamweight champion.
“I wanna go ahead and give a message to the children, believe in yourself. Don’t fear failure, dream big! Work hard, stay positive, enjoy the journey,” Turcios added.
Filipino MMAs making their mark in the world include Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, named among the world’s best MMA fighters, and Rolando “The Incredible” Dy, named the Brave Combat Federation Fighter of the Year 2020.
