Team Philippines competed against more than 1,100 students from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Malta, Republic of North Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and host Bulgaria.
Christian Gendrano, a Grade 7 student of De La Salle Santiago – Zobel was the big winner.
Gendrano captured the Absolute Winner Cup for being the most successful contestant in the elimination and final round. He also snagged the Math Star of the Tournament, a gold medal for the individual contest, a bronze medal for team contest and the MWB Gold Cup.
Other Filipino math wizards in the winners circle were Zion Skye Earl Carmelo Uy and Rohan Gerald Herrera (Ateneo de Manila Grade School), Harry Gerald Perez (De La Salle – Lipa Integrated School), Renzterton R. Sibal (Lourdes School of Mandaluyong), Mi Jung Pak and John Henry T. Marquez (Philippine Science High School) and Beatriz Lucia Rodriguez (Southville International School and Colleges).
The Asian MathSci League, Inc. (AMSLI) said that “it was such a remarkable finish” for the eight Pinoy wiz-kids who traveled thousands of miles from Manila to be able to join the Mathematics Without Borders (MWB) Tournament Finals in Bulgaria.
