Filipino karate champion James De Los Santos is closing in on the World Top 1 ranking as he continues to dominate his online matches, winning two more gold medals one after another.
The two new medals from the Venice Cup and Tokaido Maribor Open E-Tournament come after harvesting his 9th and 10th golds from two other international online tournaments in early September.
The Pinoy karateka shared the good news on his social media to express his gratitude to all his supporters.
“Praise God! Won my 12th gold!” De Los Santos said on his post on September 29, 2020.
The 30-year-old Filipino karate sensation first defeated players from Canada during the Round of 16, Luxembourg in the quarterfinal, and Switzerland at the semifinal. De Los Santos faced and bested the player from Slovenia in the final round and won the gold for the Philippines at the Venice Cup.
Just a week ago, the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) medalist snagged his 11th gold since he started competing virtually after he ruled the Tokaido Maribor Open E-Tournament.
With his 11th and 12th gold wins, De Los Santos earned points closer to the Top 1 rank.
“I’m not far from the no. 1 spot. Just a little more,” said the World’s e-Kata Top 2 player.
De Los Santos shot up to World No. 2 spot in August, with 3,000 points between him and world No. 1 Eduardo Garcia of Portugal.
The Filipino champion was just 450 points behind Garcia going into the match that gave him his 12th gold. The current world kata rankings scored De Los Santos with 7,675 points and Garcia with 8,125 points.
SEND CONGRATULATIONS in the comments below to the Philippines’ James De Los Santos as he gets closer to the World Top 1 rank after winning his 12th gold in karate!
