The Philippines’ online karate superstar James De Los Santos once again brought pride to the country after winning his 5th virtual gold medal at the recently E-Karate Games 2020.
De Los Santos shared the good news on his social media on September 3, 2020, after he emerged victorious in the Men’s Senior Shotokan Kata division.
“Clinched my fifth virtual gold medal!” the 30-year-old Pinoy karateka announced on his Instagram post that came with screenshots of his and his opponents’ scores.
The Filipino champion athlete first bested his rivals from the United Kingdom and Iran during the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. Then, he upstaged Nejc Sternisa of Slovenia during the final round with a score of 25.9 – 23.4.
“In the final round, I defeated Slovenia to snag my fifth virtual gold medal,” the karate champion shared.
The No. 2 ranked player in the world rankings for the E-Tournaments shared that he is targeting to claim the Top 1 spot.
“This tournament will add points to the virtual kata world rankings. The journey to no. 1 is a long road, but I’m not stopping.”
The Filipino gold medalist also expressed gratitude to all his supporters.
“Keep the fire burning,” James concluded.
De Los Santos won his 4th gold in August at the Athlete’s E-Tournament Series 1 where he defeated top-ranked Eduardo Garcia of Portugal in the Individual Male Seniors category.
He reaped his first virtual gold medal at the Palestine International Karate Cup in April, followed by his stint at E-Tournament Korokotta Cup 2020 from June 19 to 29 where he bagged his second gold.
James De Los Santos reaped his third gold at Balkan Open E-Tournament held from July 23 to August 2.
