The Philippines’ renowned gymnast, Carlos “Caloy” Edriel Yulo, demonstrated his prowess at the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Qatar, clinching both gold and silver medals and solidifying his position as a top contender for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Yulo, a Filipino world champion athlete, displayed exceptional form as he secured the silver medal in the Vault Event and followed it up with a gold medal in Parallel Bars during the finals of the FIG World Cup Doha, which took place last Saturday (PhST), April 20, 2024.
In the vault competition, Yulo claimed the silver medal with a score of 15.066 points, narrowly trailing behind first-placer Davtyan Artur of Armenia, who scored 15.166 points.

Yulo’s flawless routine on the parallel bars earned him 15.200 points, securing the top spot on the podium. Yuan-Hsi Hung from Taipei took second place with 14.966 points, followed by Caio Souza from Brazil with 14.566 points.

This triumph adds to Yulo’s impressive track record, building on his successes at previous FIG World Cup events. Last year, he dominated the 2023 FIG World Cup in Baku, clinching gold in both Men’s Vault and Parallel Bars. Additionally, Yulo secured silver in vault and bronze in parallel bars at the 2022 FIG World Championships.
While Yulo did not advance to the World Cup Doha final in the floor exercise event, which he won last year and claimed bronze in Baku this year, his past achievements have solidified his status as a trailblazer in Filipino gymnastics. Notably, Yulo made history at the FIG World Championships by becoming the first Filipino artistic gymnast to win a medal (FX bronze, Doha 2018) and the first to secure a title (FX gold, Stuttgart 2019).
As Carlos Yulo continues his preparations for the Paris Olympics in July, where he aims to add more medals to his collection, his recent performance in Qatar underscores his readiness to compete on the world stage.
