Ten Filipino actors and a director were honored at the 2024 Wu Wei Taipei International Film Festival in Taiwan. The Pinoy talents took home recognition for the skills and performances they showcased in their respective films.
The awards were presented during the Philippine Night Awarding Ceremony on September 1 at the Westar Taipei Theater.
Njel de Mesa, an acclaimed film writer and director, won the Best Picture award for his 2023 comedy movie Malditas in Maldives. De Mesa accepted the award alongside his wife, Jan Christine Reyes, and his collaborator, producer, and lead actress, Arci Munoz.
De Mesa expressed his gratitude on social media, thanking his co-workers and supporters for their contributions to the film’s creation leading to its recognition at the festival.

The 3rd edition of the film festival was organized by the WTIFF group in association with the Filcom Taiwan Network Group.
Filipinos have been snagging pride and glory for the Philippines in Taiwan in recent years.
In 2020, Filipina actress and celebrity endorser Gabbi Garcia was chosen as Taiwan Tourism Ambassador by the Taiwan Tourism Board.
The following year in 2021, University of the Philippines High School in Iloilo (UPHSI) professor Jose R. Taton, Jr. and Panay Bukidnon student Rennel Lavilla won the Second Best Presentation award for their research on Bukidnon Subing music at the 6th Symposium of the International Council for Traditional Music Study Group on Performing Arts of Southeast Asia (ICTM-PASEA) virtually held and hosted by Tainan National University of the Arts in Taiwan.
In August 2024, young ballroom dancers from One Cainta CBD Dancesport Team of Cainta, Rizal, dazzled the global dance floor by winning multiple medals at the 2024 Taiwan International Dancesport Cup.
