World bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire has been voted the Fighter of the Year in the Twitter and YouTube polls conducted by Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).
Donaire was bestowed the year-end honor by PBC, a United States-based live television series that features prestigious boxing events around the globe, for his history-making knockout wins in the 2021 season.
The 39-year-old Donaire earlier scored the World Boxing Council (WBC) “Comeback of the Year” honor for becoming the oldest boxer in history to win a major bantamweight world title after defeating Frenchman Nordine Oubaali by knockout in the fourth round of their May 2021 bout.
The Filipino Flash successfully defended his world title and scored a knockout victory over compatriot Reymart Gaballo last December. Gaballo previously held the interim title in 2020.
The WBC bantamweight champion currently holds a 42-6 win-loss record with 28 knockouts.
The Filipino boxing star was announced the winner of the combined Twitter and YouTube polls with a total of 47.6% of votes from fans of the boxing series to beat out the likes of top professional boxers Stephen Fulton, Jr., Gervonta Davis, and David Benavidez on the online polls that determined the winner on January 1, 2022.
