Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto will portray one of the main characters in the upcoming Star Wars series “The Acolyte” to be released on Disney+.
Jacinto joins fellow leads Amandla Stenberg and “Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae as well as previously announced cast member Jodie Turner-Smith in the new series.
Set in the Star Wars Universe’s “High Republic” era, “The Acolyte” is a mystery-thriller that promises to take viewers “into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers.”
The upcoming series is helmed by Leslye Headland, the Emmy Award-nominated creator of the mind-bending series “Russian Doll.”
“The Acolyte” is one of several live-action Star Wars series at Disney+ which includes the “Rogue One” prequel “Andor” and “The Mandalorian”, among others.
Jacinto is best known for his role as the lovable Jason Mendoza on the award-winning fantasy comedy show, The Good Place. He also starred in the Hulu series “Nine Perfect Strangers” and Netflix’s “Brand New Cherry Flavor.”
“The Good Place” actor has also appeared on the big screen alongside Hollywood actor Tom Cruise in “Top Gun: Maverick” and has starred in films “I Want You Back” and “Bad Times at the El Royale.”

Jacinto also previously joined the all-Filipino voice cast of the first Filipino animated series on Netflix, Trese.
