Filipino-British Chef Josh Boutwood of The Test Kitchen in Manila has been honored with the “Young Talent of the Year” award by La Liste, a restaurant finder and gastronomic ranking system based in France.
Boutwood is among the 2021 awardees for “Young Talents of the Year”, La Liste’s choice of promising chefs under 35 years old.
The 34-year-old chef was praised by the international culinary guide for juggling “constant innovation” at homegrown restaurant The Test Kitchen, his concepts Helm and Savage, as well as his job as executive chef at The Bistro Group managing over 130 restaurants across the Philippines.
La Liste, best known for publishing their year-end top 1,000 best restaurants in the world, revealed 10 special awards for 2021. According to La Liste, the special awards this year recognized the commitment and hard work of individuals around the globe who overcame last year’s crisis in order “to build the gastronomy of tomorrow.”
The Filipino chef shared about his new achievement as “Young Talent of the Year” in an Instagram post on January 17, expressing his surprise at being included in the 2021 special awards of the Parisian restaurant ranking and guide.
“Not sure how it happened but @laliste1000 honoured me with a young talent award 2021. 🙏” Josh Boutwood wrote.
In late 2019, the Filipino-British chef re-opened Manila’s The Test Kitchen with a new address and formula, “switching from tasting menu to à la carte but maintaining the same level of artistry.”
The following year, the multi-awarded chef’s very own The Test Kitchen landed a spot on CNN Travel’s “Best New Asia-Pacific Restaurants” and is the only Filipino restaurant on the list.
La Liste is known for offering the best global restaurant selection for international travelers in over 200 countries based on the compilation of thousands of media publications, hundreds of guidebooks, and millions of online reviews.
Filipino chefs who have earned international recognition include Tom Cunanan of Bad Saint and Margarita Lorenza-Manzke of République. Both made the finals of America’s prestigious annual James Beard Awards.
