Filipino bowlers Merwin Tan and Lara Posadas-Wong reaped gold medals for Team Philippines in separate tourneys held in Hong Kong.
The Philippine bowling team showed off Pinoy bowling skills and clinched a total of 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals in the two international competitions held in July.
Merwin Tan emerged with a gold from the 45th Hong Kong International Tenpin Bowling Championship (HKITBC) held on July 15 to 21. Lara Posadas-Wong raised the country’s flag by winning gold at the Hong Kong leg of Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) Tour on July 21.
Tan, the reigning Asian Youth champion, ruled the Youth Masters Division at the 2019 edition of the HKITBC.
The Pinoy bowler settled for bronze in the Men’s Open Division and in the Youth Boys Doubles with fellow Filipino bowler Patrick Nuqui.
Meanwhile, Filipina bowler Lara Posadas-Wong snatched the gold at the ABF Tour Matchplay, and bagged the bronze for at the Ladies Open Master Division.
Enzo Hernandez grabbed the silver at the ABF Tour Matchplay.

Tan and Posadas-Wong appeared at the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Amelie Hotel-Manila on July 23 after their successful stint in the two bowling competitions held in Hong Kong. The Filipino bowlers shared their dreams of ending the Philippines’ long years of gold medal drought at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
“We’ll do our best to win gold medals for the Philippines this coming SEA Games. We cannot assure anything right now, but we’re really practicing very hard. So hopefully, maipakita namin ito sa SEA Games,” said Posadas-Wong.
The Philippine Bowling Federation will release the country’s final team line up for the SEA Games in September.
The Filipino bowlers will be competing with their respective teams abroad prior to participating in the upcoming 30th SEA Games to be held in Clark, Pampanga from November to December.
Lara Posadas-Wong is set to compete at the World Women’s Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada in August, and later in the Asian Bowling Championships in Kuwait.
“The target is of course, manalo ng medal,” said Merwin Tan who will join the men’s team in Kuwait in for Asian Bowling Championships before competiting in an U-22 meet in Japan.
