Filipino-British singer-songwriter Beabadoobee is showcasing the beauty of her hometown Iloilo, Philippines, in the official music video of her new song, “Glue Song”.
The music video she herself directed with Jake Erland shows scenic views of the province and offers glimpses into the singer’s personal life and Filipino upbringing.
At the start of the music video, the singer pays respect to her grandmother with the traditional Filipino gesture of respect, “Mano Po”. She spends time with her family and explores Iloilo riding a jeepney and tricycle in the rest of the video.
The London-based Filipino artist said she filmed the video in her hometown to “capture how beautiful Iloilo is.”
“I’ve never smiled so big in a music video before…I wanted to capture how beautiful ilo ilo is as i haven’t seen much of it on the internet, and I ought I needed that when i was growing up,” Beabadoobee wrote in an Instagram post on February 14, 2023.
Beabadoobee, whose real name is Beatrice Laus, was born in Iloilo City and later immigrated to London with her parents when she was 3 years old.
The indie-pop singer shared that her family in the Philippines appeared in the video as well as her grandmother’s home in the province.
“A lot of people i love are in this music video, so you guys are seeing a little exclusive snapshot of my life,” Beabadoobee added.
“My lolo planted all those trees in that bit where i am walking around in, my lola’s house is where i grew up in and visited every year once i moved to london, she cooked me very yummy food,” the singer said.
Beabadoobee earlier marked Valentine’s Day with the release of the music video along with her highly anticipated single, “Glue Song” which talks about finding someone special and falling in love.
Beabadoobee made history as the youngest Filipino act to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the United States.
