Filipino-American vlogger Wil Dasovich has been declared the champion of the World Vlog Challenge, taking home the top prize in the challenge which called on notable social media heroes from across the world to tell the stories of the Himalayan glaciers.
The Philippines’ entry which raised awareness about the rapidly melting glaciers in the Himalayas bested videos from 10 vloggers around the world who participated in the challenge organized at the base camp of Mount Everest.
The Fil-Am travel vlogger and cancer survivor triumphantly announced his win on social media.
“We did it!” Dasovich wrote in a Facebook post on October 16, 2022. “I just want to make you all proud and it’s moments like these where I get to represent an entire country that make me feel like I’m creating an impact.”
As a content creator, the celebrity YouTuber said he was proud to make an impact and promote a meaningful cause to inspire others.
Dasovich also added that the winning video which documented his trip to the Himalayas was the most difficult that he had produced to date.
The nearly 10-minute video for the competition featured his trek to Khumbu Glacier, one of Mount Everest’s base camps, to help raise awareness for the impact of climate change in the Himalayan glaciers.
“The amount of work it took to create this vlog was easily more than a month, including the two weeks of hiking, including the editing, writing this out. To receive recognition like this, it means a lot,” Wil Dasovich said in his acceptance speech at the awards ceremony in Nepal.
Last year, Wil Dasovich also bagged the top award from an international vlogging competition.
Notable Filipino personalities and influencers using their platforms for worthwhile causes include Illac Diaz of the award-winning global grassroots solar lighting movement Liter of Light and environmentalist celebrity Jasmine Curtis-Smith who promotes renewable energy.
