The Philippines’ Far Eastern University (FEU) has entered the Global Top 100 Innovative Universities list of the World’s Universities Real Impact (WURI) Rankings, the only Philippine university to make the list.

FEU joins the WURI top 100 international schools list alongside Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard University.

FEU placed 19th in the Ethical Value category and 91st overall in the innovative universities ranking in the WURI system this year.

The WURI rankings are prepared by the task force of the Organizing Committee of the Second Conference of the Hanseatic League of Universities based on an evaluation of universities’ contributions to society and its creative and innovative approaches to research and education.

The international ranking system lauded the Philippine university’s efforts to innovate learning programs such as the Learning Journey framework which was created in 2018 for both students and educators to “address the need to innovate in a fast-changing world.”

The Learning Journey includes a “Bakit List” which focuses on a student’s purpose, capability, resourcefulness, connectedness, and culture. The framework has been helping FEU evaluate and improve their students’ academic experience.

University students and professors can access the FEU Learning Journey (FLJ) framework through its Learning Management System Canvas.

“This unlocks each student’s full potential and stays true to FEU’s goal of producing effective leaders with global standards,” says the university’s Vice President for Academic Services Joeven R. Castro said in an FEU report on September 25, 2020.

FEU had previously developed its innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Drone Thermal Scanner in a collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) amid the pandemic.

Other top educational institutions University of the Philippines (UP) and De La Salle University (DLSU) have meanwhile retained their spots as the country’s leading educational institutions in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) 2021.
