Filipino pole vault gold medalist Ernest John Obiena once again bagged another gold medal, this time at the 2019 Jump and Fly – Baxter Meeting held in Germany.
Obiena competed in Mossingen on July 20, fresh from his successful quest at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Italy where he plucked a gold medal while setting a new national record, a new Southeast Asia record, and a new personal best on July 12. The strong Napoli performance earned the Filipino athlete the World University Champion title after he bested his own Asian Athletics Championships-record-breaking performance earlier in April.
In Germany, Obiena jumped and recorded 5.63 meters to win the gold medal.
Here are the Men’s pole vault results in the 2019 Jump and Fly – Baxter Meeting:
* Gold – Ernest John Obiena, Philippines (5.63 meters)
* Silver – Gordon Porsch, Germany (5.51 meters)
* Bronze – Jorge Luna, Mexico (5.35 meters)
Ernest John Obiena strengthens his bid for the Qualifiers of the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan by winning various pole vault competitions. He is set to next compete at the Leverkusen, Germany on July 24.
