Brandishing their UP pedigree, legendary rock band Eraserheads reunite today on the music stage while a rivalry on the hardcourt is rekindled between the UP Fighting Maroons and Ateneo Blue Eagles men’s basketball teams as the University of the Philippines hosts the opening ceremony of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 87.
The much-anticipated stage reunion of EHeads’ Ely Buendia, Raymund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro headline the opening day show on September 7, 2024, at 11 AM. World Hip Hop Champions UPeepz, Johnoy Danao, Moonstar 88, Slapshock, girl group Kaia, and more, join the extravaganza.
The Battle of Katipunan between the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University sizzle the hardcourt at 6:30 PM.

Recently honored with the prestigious Gawad Oblation Award from UP, the Eraserheads were recognized for their “indelible impact on the scope and sound of our culture.” Their performance at the UAAP opening ceremony will be a significant homecoming and a chance to connect with a broader audience of sports fans.
“We’re happy to share the news that the EHeads are going to share their magic with the UAAP as we start Season 87. It’s happening at the perfect time. They’ve reached the pinnacle of their career. They’ve reached the top, disbanded, reunited, and have come full circle. They are true music icons and legends and our national pride,” said UP Office of Athletics and Sports Development (UP OASD) Director Bo Perasol.

The UAAP Opening Ceremony heralds the UAAP Season 87 theme “Stronger, Better, Together.” Palawan Pay, Converge ICT Solutions, CDO Foodsphere, and Strong Group Athletics sponsor the event.
Tickets for the Opening Ceremony at 11 AM and the first basketball game between the UP Fighting Maroons and Ateneo Blue Eagles at 6:30 PM will be sold separately. Both events will be held at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, with tickets available at Ticketnet and UAAP schools.
The games will be streamed live on One Sports, UAAP Varsity Channel FB, Pilipinas Live app, and the Smart Livestream app.
