The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) is offering the public its iHeatMap, an online monitoring tool that gives Filipinos real-time access to nationwide heat index data.

Learn practical ways to protect yourself from extreme heat by checking out these essential tips to avoid heatstroke during summer heatwaves.

The Interactive Heat Index Mapping and Prediction platform, or iHeatMap, provides high-resolution, gridded heat index information. Users can visit DOST-PAGASA’s official heat index page to select their locality and view the current heat index along with specific time data for guidance.

iHeatMap empowers Filipinos with real-time, science-based heat index data — so they can make informed, timely, and potentially life-saving decisions. It is a great example of how technology and science can work together for everyday public health and safety,” said DOST-PAGASA Administrator Nathaniel T. Servando.

The platform uses color-coded warnings based on the heat index level:

  • Yellow (27–32°C)Caution: Fatigue may result from prolonged exposure.

  • Yellow-Orange (33–41°C)Extreme Caution: Heat cramps and exhaustion possible.

  • Red-Orange (42–51°C)Danger: Likely heat cramps/exhaustion; heat stroke probable.

  • Red (≥52°C)Extreme Danger: Heat stroke imminent.

To stay safe, DOST-PAGASA advises the public to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat, stay hydrated, avoid diuretic drinks like coffee and soda, wear protective clothing, and reschedule strenuous activities to cooler hours.

In emergencies, move the person to shade, elevate their legs, remove excess clothing, and cool them with water or ice packs on key areas. If symptoms are severe, immediately seek medical attention.
