Filipino actress Dolly de Leon has won Best Supporting Performer in the 48th annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) Awards for her performance in the social satire drama, “Triangle of Sadness”.

The FAMAS-winning actress shared the top honor with Vietnamese actor Ke Huy Quan of “Everything Everywhere All at Once” in the organization’s year-end awards which announced winners on December 12, 2022.

“Triangle of Sadness,” the Palme d’Or-winning social satire commentary starring de Leon, tackles privilege and greed and is directed by Swedish filmmaker Ruben Ostlund.

In the film, de Leon plays Abigail, a toilet manager working on a cruise ship that gets stranded on a deserted island. Her highly-lauded performance in the film was a homage to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

The organization’s award winners will be honored during an annual ceremony in January 2023.

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) was founded in 1975 by professional film critics working in the Los Angeles print and electronic media.

Filipino actresses gaining international recognition include Kylie Verzosa who honored OFWs as she accepted her Best Actress award at the 2022 Distinctive International Arab Festivals Awards (DIAFA) in Dubai and Janine Gutierrez who received the Rising Star Award at the 20th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF).
