Dolly de Leon won the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the Guldbagge Awards in Sweden.
De Leon added another trophy to her string of achievements for her performance in the social satire drama, “Triangle of Sadness”.
The Filipino actress bested Swedish actors Carla Sehn (Stammisar), Liv Mjönes (Tack för senast), and Marika Lindström (Bränn alla mina brev).
“Triangle of Sadness”, the Palme d’Or-winning social satire commentary starring de Leon, tackles privilege and greed and is directed by Swedish filmmaker Ruben Ostlund.
In the film, de Leon plays Abigail, a toilet manager working on a cruise ship stranded on a deserted island. Her highly-lauded performance in the movie was a homage to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
De Leon’s award was accepted by Pauline Hansson, the casting director of “Triangle of Sadness” in an awards ceremony on January 23, 2023.
“Triangle of Sadness” won Best Film, Best Direction, and Best Costume Design honors at the Swedish awards. Her co-star Zlatko Burić also bagged the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award.
The Guldbagge Awards are Sweden’s leading film awards and have been presented since 1964 for outstanding contributions to Swedish film over the past years.
Dolly de Leon earlier won Best Supporting Performer in the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) Awards for her performance in the same film and made Hollywood history as the first Filipino nominated at the Golden Globe Awards.
