De La Salle University has been ranked the Philippines’ top Higher Education Institution (HEI) in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) by Subject for the second straight year.
The 2022 edition of the global rankings ranked DLSU in the 801-1000 bracket while the University of the Philippines is ranked in the 1000+ bracket.
The two universities are the only Philippine HEIs officially ranked in THE WUR rankings. Ateneo de Manila University was the third Philippine university listed in the 2022 edition but only given the Reporter mark for institutions that are recognized as active participants in the rankings process, even though they have not been ranked this year for not meeting certain criteria.
In a statement, College of Science Dean Dr.Glenn Alea said, “We are delighted that DLSU is recognized once again for its quality research in the Physical Sciences. I congratulate the faculty, students, and staff of the College of Science and other units in the University who have contributed to this achievement.
He urged the community to remain committed to the pursuit of new knowledge in the fields of mathematics and statistics, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences, and marine sciences.
“Our outputs will hopefully lead to innovations that will shape and influence society, help the poor and the marginalized and improve the quality of life,” Dr. Alea added.
This year, 1,227 institutions met the criteria to be included in the Physical Sciences subject rankings.
The physical sciences subject ranking uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.
It highlights the universities that are leading across the following disciplines: mathematics and statistics, physics and astronomy, chemistry, geology, environmental sciences, and earth and marine sciences.
The University of California, Berkeley tops the ranking for the first time in 2022 after rising from second and knocking off the California Institute of Technology off the top spot.
THE is expected to release the subject rankings in Engineering, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Law, and Arts and Humanities in the coming weeks.
