Actress Dimples Romana, whose TV character Daniela Mondragon #OhDani memes have gone viral, has volunteered to become a Philippine tourism advocate.
For several weeks now the iconic scene from the afternoon TV series Kadenang Ginto, where Romana’s Daniela character was seen in a red dress and pulling red luggage, has been going around the internet as a meme – placing Daniela in different places around the Philippines and even around the world.
On Monday, July 8, Romana made a courtesy call at the Department of Tourism (DOT) office and met with Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.
Dimples Romana expressed her desire to collaborate with DOT on its campaign to help promote lesser-known destinations, museums, and heritage sites in the Philippines, and to be an advocate for sustainable tourism.
DOT posted a confirmation on its official Facebook page that the Kadenang Ginto lead star is now a DOT tourism advocate volunteer. Romana now joins a growing list of Filipino celebrity tourism advocates.
“We, as Filipinos, are all tourism advocates. Each time we share on social media our experiences when we travel and where we travel, we inspire others to do the same,” Romana said.
The Filipina actress, art enthusiast, and self-confessed museum lover credited netizens for making the Daniela Mondragon memes that made her aware of more places to explore in the Philippines.
“Ang sarap makitang tinatangkilik natin ang sariling atin (It feels good to see us enjoying our very own). Salamat everyone for reminding me just how blessed we are as a country for having the best people, warm and hospitable, and funny, and because of all the tagged photos you sent me, nakita ko na ang dami pa nating pwedeng ma explore na lugar sa Pilipinas (… I realized there are more places to explore in the Philippines). Mabuhay ka Pilipinas (Long live the Philippines). You make me proud to be a Filipino,” Romana said in an Instagram post.
