Filipino actress Cristine Reyes successfully clinched the Best Actress award at the recently concluded 40th Fantasporto-Oporto International Film Festival in Portugal.
The ABS-CBN Kapamilya actress bagged one of the festival’s major awards for her portrayal of Mara in the movie UnTrue, the Viva Artists Agency shared on social media on March 8, 2020.
“Congratulations to our very own, Cristine Reyes for winning the ‘BEST ACTRESS’ award at the recent OPORTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL in her portrayal of MARA in the film UNTRUE! We’re very proud of you,” the talent agency said on its Instagram post.
The movie UnTrue of Director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo represented the Philippines in the 40th edition of Oporto International Film Festival slated from February 28 to March 7 and competed under the Fantasy Films category.
The Filipino movie top-billed by Viva-contract artists Cristine Reyes and Xian Lim, and filmed in Georgia in Eastern Europe, tells the story of battered wife Mara who is abused by her husband, Joaquim, and tries to ask help from the police.
Filipino actors and filmmakers have been making names for shining in various film festivals across the world.
Ai-Ai delas Alas and Ina Raymundo shared the Best Actress Award in the 2019 Fantasporto Film Festival.
More recently, Mara Lopez of the film “Jesusa” bagged the Best Supporting Actress award in the foreign-language category at the 2020 North Europe International Film Festival (IFF) in London.
Indie film “Edward” lead actor Louise Abuel won the Best Actor Award at the 2020 Dhaka International Film Festival.
The 19-minute documentary about Supertyphoon Yolanda entitled “To Calm the Pig Inside (Ang Pagpakalma sa Unos)” of Joanna Vasquez Arong won the Grand Jury Prize at Utah’s 2020 Slamdance Film Festival.
GMA Kapuso drama actor Martin del Rosario of the movie “Born Beautiful” won the Best Leading Male Performance at the 2020 Asian TV Awards.
