The long-awaited extension of the Light Rail Transit (LRT)-1 line from Baclaran to Cavite is gearing up for its grand debut in the last quarter of 2024.
According to the latest update from the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 is now 97% complete as of January, right on track for its scheduled opening.
Construction of the five new stations is swiftly nearing completion, with significant progress across the board. Notably, Dr. Santos Station has completed the staircase and louver installation, while MIA Station has finalized its ceiling and is currently undertaking secondary steelwork.
Telecom installation activities at various stations have been completed, with test runs of LRT-1 trains underway to ensure smooth operations upon launch.
Once completed, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 will add 6.2km to the existing line, connecting Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Paranaque City. It’s projected to significantly reduce travel time and benefit up to 600,000 passengers daily.
The subsequent Phases 2 and 3 will extend the LRT-1 line from Paranaque to Bacoor in Cavite with three stations in Las Piñas, Zapote, and Niog.
LRMC President and CEO, Juan F. Alfonso emphasized the project’s broader impact, stating, “The LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project is poised to significantly contribute to the nation’s economic growth and development by fostering improved connectivity between individuals and communities.”
With the Cavite Extension, the total number of LRT-1 stations will increase from 20 to 28, covering several major cities and expected to service up to 800,000 passengers daily.
