Filipino cosplayer Janine Audrey Reyes has been crowned champion, leading other Philippine winners in this year’s Gyeonggi International Cosplay Festival (GICOF) held virtually in Bucheon, South Korea.
Reyes (Ninj9) together with Team Coseja’s Marlon Carranceja, and Team Orient Pearls’ Krissika and Phoenix StormCrow won top prizes in the virtual awards ceremony live-streamed via YouTube on September 4, 2021.
The Philippine representatives competed amongst fellow cosplayers from ten countries that participated in the online world championship.
Reyes, who cosplayed as Rapunzel from the Disney movie “Tangled,” took home the crown as this year’s world champion.
Team Coseja’s Marlon Carranceja portrayed Marvel’s Tony Stark and Doctor Strange and ended up in third place.
Cosplay duo Krissika and Phoenix StormCrow came in 11th place for dressing up as Ariel and Ursula from the 1989 Disney film “The Little Mermaid.”
The Philippines’ first GICOF Championship title was won by Filipino cosplay pair Sergio Sta Ana and Winn Evangelista from local cosplay group Z Warriors in 2019.
Team Namikaze of the Philippines made history this year by winning the first major award in the annual World Cosplay Summit (WCS) Championships in Japan while Filipina actress Nadine Lustre pulled off the look of Filipino TEKKEN fighter “Josie Rizal” and managed to amaze the Japanese game’s director.
