Christian Bables has won the Bright Star Award in the 2019 Asian Pop Up Cinema in Chicago.
The Filipino actor was announced on August 28 as the sole recipient of the Bright Star Award in the 9th Season of the semi-annual film festival based in Illinois and organized by the non-profit pan-Asian film organization, Sophia’s Choice.
Christian Bables will be personally receiving his award during the festival’s run from September 10-October 10, 2019.
The Asian Pop Up Cinema Bright Star Award recipient will be featured in a forum during the FYLPRO fundraiser and Chicago premiere screening of his award-winning film, Signal Rock, scheduled on October 3 at the Alliance Française de Chicago.
Signal Rock, the Philippines’ bet to the 2019 Oscars, will be featured among the 17 films from 7 Asian countries screening at the Asian Pop Up Cinema.
Bables debuted in the Philippine film industry in the award-winning 2018 film “Die Beautiful” where the actor essayed the role of “Barbs”. The actor’s performance as the best friend of transgender woman Trisha, played by lead star Paolo Ballesteros, earned him a Best Supporting Actor award.
Christian Bables rose to international acclaim in the movie “Signal Rock” where he played the lead role of “Intoy,” the brother of a distressed overseas Filipino worker. Bables earned multiple recognitions for Signal Rock including a Best Actor Award at the Hanoi International Film Festival.
Signal Rock has received several international recognitions including Best Film at the ASEAN International Film Festival and Best Script at the Dhaka International Film Festival.
Signal Rock received a Golden Globe Awards screening invitation and was the Philippines’ entry to the 2019 Academy Awards in Hollywood.
Christian Bables will be seen in the upcoming film, The Panti Sisters, screening in Philippine theaters by September 13, 2019.
