Christian Bables was declared Best Actor at the 2018 Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) in closing ceremonies held on October 31.
Bables won for his portrayal of “Intoy” in “Signal Rock,” a film about a provincial boy who is helping his overseas Filipino worker sister win a child custody case by involving the townspeople.
The Filipino actor won the Special Jury Award for Outstanding Acting at the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino where Signal Rock first screened in August.
Signal Rock, directed by Chito Roño, is the Philippines’ nominee to the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2019 Oscars Academy Awards in Hollywood.
The Best Actor award was received on Bables’ behalf by Angeli Bayani who was present at the Closing and Awarding Ceremonies of HANIFF.
In a Facebook post, Bables acknowledged the award and credited his mentors and supporters for his winning the Best Actor trophy.
The award-winning actor also offered his award to other artists writing, “May this recognition bring inspiration to artists who are at the verge of giving up. Please hold on and stay true to that burning passion inside you. God has a purpose. Sometime, somewhere, there will be someone who will say yes to all of your dreams. HINTAY and SIPAG LANG.”
