Jessica Rayne Tijam, the accomplished teen rhythmic gymnast of the Philippine national team, is holding online gymnastics classes for other athletes of the Philippines who are staying home during the community quarantine to stop the spread coronavirus disease.

The 15-year-old Tijam went online on April 15, 2020, for her first class on Zoom attended by 26 participants. For the one hour session, Tijam led the gymnasts in a warm-up, conditioning with the ball, stretching, and cool-down.

The session was managed with Philippine gymnastics Coach Dayanara Gail Arandela, who was glad to see her passionate trainees applying what they learned from the champion Filipino athlete into their everyday training.

The Philippine National Athlete in rhythmic gymnastics has brought honor to the country with her medal-winning performances on the floor with different apparatusesーor instrumentsーlike the hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon.

Jessica was born in the United States to Filipino migrant parents Rey and Janine of Cavite. Jessica is hailed in U.S. competitions but chose to represent the Philippines as a national athlete. She continues to reside and train in San Diego, California while representing the Philippines in competitions.

Good News Pilipinas learned how Tijam was touched when thankful participants presented hand-drawn posters showing their gratitude and appreciation for the class.

“She was super excited and was really happy about the outcome. She was surprised when the girls had ready-made posters for her at the end of the sessions. It was truly heartwarming,” shared Janine Tijam with Good News Pilipinas.

The online sessions with Tijam are open not only for the national team but to any athlete interested in learning from the Filipino champion gymnast.
Coach Arandela’s Facebook page accepts inquiries concerning the classes. Coach Arandela and Tijam are scheduling more of these sessions in the later weeks.
